One More Week Of Here Comes The Sun Quilt Exhibit

January has flown by and today we can see a landscape of snow out of our windows. As we usher in winter, the Iowa Quilt Museum is about to usher out the glowing quilt exhibit Here Comes the Sun. Guest curator, Joe Cunningham, did a great job of compiling a wide range of quilts to showcase an often polarizing color.

Help us celebrate the last week of Here Comes the Sun by joining us for our Gallery Walk and Quilt Collector Tuesday@12 program. The exhibit closes at 4 PM on Sunday, January 23. More details are below.

We’re also preparing for the installation of our new exhibit, Deeds Not Words: Celebrating 100 Years of Women’s Suffrage. This exhibit is co-curated by Pam Weeks of the New England Quilt Museum and Sandra Sider of the Texas Quilt Museum. It is sponsored by eQuilter.com.

Happy quilting,

Carissa Heckathorn, IQM Director

Here Comes the Sun Quilt Exhibit Gallery Walk

Contemporary quilt artist Joe Cunningham will be in Winterset on Wednesday, January 19, to conduct a special gallery walk of Here Comes the Sun, a celebration of orange. Cunningham, based in San Francisco, curated the exhibit, which features nineteenth and early twentieth-century quilts, as well as new works made by current artists—including two of his own. The color orange figures prominently in every quilt on display

Wednesday’s gallery walk is from 4 to 5 p.m. Admission is $10. A free reception with appetizers and beverages follows from 5:30 to 6:30. According to IQM board member Marianne Fons, “Joe is a very entertaining speaker. His presentation will be a lot of fun.” The exhibit closes Sunday, January 23.

Quilt Collectors: The How and The Why

We’ve invited collectors Bill and Linda Volckening and Roderick Kiracofe to join us on January 18th at 12 PM CT. They will share how they became quilt collectors. We’ll also get to hear their experiences in the quilt collecting world and learn more about how they go about finding quilts for their collections.
