Fall is here and the museum is off to a wonderful start this season. Our current exhibit “Fiber Art Now-Excellence in Quilts 2022” is receiving rave reviews. We’ve had many visitors tell is “this is the best exhibit you’ve had”. Now, we’re a bit partial to ALL our exhibits, but we agree this one is exceptional.
Our educational panels are all fixed now, and the mezzanine is “lit up!” A pesky squirrel did something to a neighboring transformer in July, and caused a power outage that blew our light boxes for the educational panels. It’s taken a bit of time to find the correct units to replace them and get everything back to running order. Thank you for everyone’s patience!
Remember our call for autumn leaves? They look great in our windows. We are so grateful to everyone who participated! There are pictures below!
Oh, and there are Quilty Ghosts in our museum. I was lucky enough to capture some photos.

Come visit us and give yourself some time to get through the gallery and gift shop before we close at 4 PM.
Fall Leaves
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU for all the beautiful fall fabric leaves! They are stunning in our front windows. We had leaves fly in from Oregon, Minnesota, Iowa, South Dakota and more!

Retail Associate or Manager
We’re looking for more help in our Gift Shop. We’ve altered things a bit and are looking for either a Retail Associate or Manager and if someone can only work 10 hours, then we’ll hire two people, meaning the number of set hours per week is flexible.
Our Retail Associate position will:
• Work part-time in the afternoon and on weekends. We’re flexible on the set hours you want to work per week if it doesn’t exceed 20 hours. The schedule may vary from week to week but is planned for an entire month at a time.
• Greet guests and handle gift shop and admission sales
• Share local attraction information with visitors and tourists
• Notify the director of ordering needs for retail items and supplies
• Light cleaning: dusting, floors, restrooms
Pay will be $12.00 per hour. You do not need to know how to quilt to work at the museum! It’s a fun job where you get to meet people from all over and our visitors want to be here!
Retail Manager
Our Retail Manager position will:
- Greet customers and introduce exhibits
- Manage Retail Associates
- Create monthly schedules with employees and volunteers
- Order new inventory and manage point of sale system
- Keep the Gift Shop clean and orderly
Hours per week are negotiable but can’t exceed 20 hours. Some weekends are necessary. This position will report to the Museum Director. Pay is $15 an hour.
Please contact Carissa Heckathorn at director@iowaquiltmuseum.org to apply.
They ARE Real!
We’ve always wondered if our museum was haunted…it seems Zak Foster Quilts and Emma Makes It #quiltyghost challenge has finally brought them out of hiding!
They’re all over the museum enjoying the exhibit and haunting our upstairs.
Do you think we can catch them and make them a permanent part of our exhibit?

New in Gift Shop
We just got these fun color-changing mugs in the Gift Shop by Mug Experience. They’re already flying off the shelves and we can see why! Come visit us at the Gift Shop or purchase them online at: https://iowa-quilt-museum.square.site/
They proudly display our logo when cold and change to a quilt design when hot.

Great Reviews for Fiber Art Now – Excellence in Quilts 2022!
When we count votes from our Viewers Choice box for each exhibit, we sometimes find little notes like this one from our visitors:
“This was the most wonderful exhibit! Honestly couldn’t pick a favorite! WOWZER!”
We agree. It’s a spectacular exhibit put together by Fiber Art Now and Nancy Bavor. It’s an honor to hang these inspiring quilts in our gallery.

Mini Exhibit – Dorothy Weller
If you attended our 2022 Airing of the Quilts event, you might have seen an exhibit by Dorothy Weller and her miniature quilts.
Well, we brought her back! She’s our Mini exhibit to the “Fiber Art Now – Excellence in Quilts 2022” exhibit. Dorothy’s workmanship is as top-notch as our main exhibit and her traditional piecing is the perfect juxtaposition to the studio art quilts.
Dorothy is 103 years old and is still making her hand-pieced, hand-quilted, miniature quilts.
Talk about goals!
She visited us this week so now you get to see her next to her quilts!
