Would you like to become part of the enchanting scene in a picturesque Iowa town straight out of a Hallmark movie? The Iowa Quilt Museum is on the lookout for a part-time Director to join our team. As a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit museum nestled on the charming square in the historic town of Winterset, Iowa, we offer a unique opportunity for a part-time role, with the potential to evolve into a full-time position.
We’re not your typical collecting museum; we’re a dynamic quilt gallery that hosts four different quilt exhibits each year. Our carefully curated exhibitions showcase incredible quilts from all corners of the United States. Even acclaimed artists like Kaffe Fassett were impressed, noting that he had never seen his quilts displayed so impeccably. Yes, Kaffe Fassett and Brandon Mably graced Winterset with their presence!
The Director we’re seeking will:
- Foster meaningful relationships with key figures in the quilting world, engaging with designers, fellow museum professionals, and notable authors. Facilitate collaborations that enhance the museum’s visibility and contribute to the richness of our exhibitions.
- Take charge of a dynamic retail team comprising four part-time individuals. Provide leadership, guidance, and support to ensure a seamless and positive visitor experience at the museum’s retail space. Encourage a customer-centric approach and optimize retail operations.
- Lead the creation and execution of strategic marketing campaigns for exhibits, programming, and fundraising initiatives. Utilize creative thinking and market insights to enhance the museum’s reach and impact. Collaborate with the team to develop compelling narratives for our diverse offerings.
- Proactively oversee the preservation and maintenance of our historical building, ensuring its integrity and charm are upheld. Manage necessary repairs and improvements, collaborating with relevant stakeholders to guarantee the museum’s physical space remains a welcoming and authentic environment.
- Implement a proactive approach to expense management, aligning expenditures with revenue goals. Strive for financial efficiency and sustainability by making informed decisions that contribute to the overall success of the Iowa Quilt Museum.
Our Board of Directors is a hands-on team, comprising nine local members.
We are looking for our new Director to start by March 1, 2024. This position is part-time and does sometimes require weekend work. Pay is $17-$20 per hour.
