Megan Barrett Named Quilt Museum Director

 

Megan BarrettMegan Barrett of Winterset has been selected as director of the Iowa Quilt Museum, with the museum on track to open officially Saturday, June 4. The facility’s soft opening is Saturday, May 21.

Currently Elementary General Music teacher at Winterset Elementary School, Megan will begin regular duties at the museum once the school year has ended. Megan will work with guest curators in planning and installing the museum’s changing exhibits through each year. She will also coordinate volunteer staff, and supervise the museum’s gift shop.

Megan holds a bachelor’s degree in music education from Drake University and has involved herself in a variety of leadership opportunities both in the field of education and in other areas. Before taking the Winterset Elementary School music position she was Winterset High School Choir Director from 2006 to 2012. She is currently Education Coordinator at First United Methodist Church and has served on the board of directors of The Winterset Stage since 2011, currently as its president.

Speaking on behalf of the Iowa Quilt Museum board of directors, Marianne Fons commented, “We think Megan will be a terrific asset to the Iowa Quilt Museum’s launch and sustainment. We want everyone who walks through the door of the museum to enjoy the quilts on display to have a great experience. We are confident Megan will help make that happen.”

In accepting the position, Megan stated, “I have loved my career as a music teacher and will continue to be an enthusiastic supporter of the Winterset Schools. I am excited to be a part of this new venture in our community, which offers so much to its residents and guests.”
