On Display Now at the IQM
A Fons & Porter Homecoming
Current Hours: Monday-Saturday 10-5, Sundays 12-4
Due to the special event on Friday, October 4th, the IQM will open to the public at Noon.
The world of quilting has been brought into the homes of millions in the US and abroad by two women who learned to quilt in Winterset, IA—Liz Porter and Marianne Fons. Their career took them from a mid-1970s beginning class at the ISU Extension office on the town square, to teaching others locally, writing best-selling quilt books, teaching and lecturing nationally, hosting a how-to program (Fons & Porter’s Love of Quilting) nationwide on public television, and ownership of the most popular quilting magazine in the world. In July 2019, the duo was inducted into The Quilters Hall of Fame in Marion, IN.

A Special Opportunity for Quilt Guilds…
Meet the Teachers Event
Do you belong to a quilt guild? If so, gather your guild leadership together a let them know about this opportunity!
Earlier this year, we introduced a new program for quilt guilds to become supporting members of the Iowa Quilt Museum. Membership cost is a sliding scale based upon the size of the guild. In addition to supporting the Iowa Quilt Museum and our mission of promoting appreciation of the American quilt and the art of quilting, there are some perks for guilds that are supporting members.

One of those perks is happening in a few weeks, our “Meet the Teachers” event. At this event, a luncheon on Friday, October 18th, we will gather a slate of teachers who would love to visit your guild in the coming year. Each teacher will have three minutes to share about his or her program and at the end of the event, attendees will receive a compilation of the teachers’ contact information. This is an excellent opportunity for your guild’s program chair!
