New Exhibit Open • A Quilted Garden
On display through June 6th

One week ago today we were busily installing our latest exhibit of quilted treasures—floral quilts on loan to us from the New England Quilt Museum in Lowell, Massachusetts. Hop on over to our CURRENT EXHIBIT page to see some photos and then join us on Tuesday at Twelve for a program with exhibit curator Pam Weeks. This exhibit will be on display through Sunday, June 6th and we sincerely hope that you’ll be able to come visit it in person! We will still offer a virtual gallery walk and an exhibit catalog as well. Those are in production now and will be available soon.

Iowa Star Block Silent Auction
Show off YOUR creativity!

Earlier this month, in celebration of National Quilting Day, we shared a pattern and instructional video of how to make an Iowa Star Block. We opted to give our star block a little ‘upgrade’ by adding string piecing in the background. This got us thinking, “what else could be done to this block to give it a creative twist?”
We’re betting that our creative supporters are going to be able to come up with some really wonderful ideas so we’ve decided to issue a challenge of sorts! Make an Iowa Star Block with your creative twist, send it to us at the IQM, and we’ll put them in a silent auction during the Airing of the Quilts. Visitors will get a chance to marvel at your creativity and your work will benefit the Iowa Quilt Museum, too! Win-Win.
The rules? There are no rules! Make your block whatever size you want, in any style you want, using any technique(s) you want. It could be a pot holder, a wall hanging, a pin cushion, wearable art or just a block. Use civil war repro, feed sack fabrics or hand-dyed fabrics. You could even use real feed sacks…or your husband’s old dress shirts. Or maybe you do quilt-like art using medium other than fabric. That’s cool, too. We do want it to be a finished piece but other than that, the sky is the limit!
We’ve created a pattern of the Iowa Star Block in a variety of sizes from a 4″ finished block to a 16″ finished block. Download that pattern, make your creation and mail it to us before May 29th so that we can include it in the silent auction during the Airing of the Quilts on June 5th.
