Happy Holidays & the Happiest of New Year!
We hope everyone has a wonderful week celebrating the holidays with family and friends. We are so excited about the upcoming year that we can’t wait to share it with you!
New Year, New Board Members
We’d like to introduce you to our new board members, Janice Marquardt and Sue Williams. We are excited to welcome them both. Janice Marquardt runs her own consulting business, Passwall Solutions, and lives on a farm with her husband and two kids. She has been quilting since her freshman year in college, starting with a class at Quilting Connection in Ames, and has made dozens of quilts of all kinds in the approximately 20 years she has been quilting. Sue is a retired elementary teacher, who keeps busy by working at a local boutique. Sue started quilting after she retired and credits her grandmother Stuchel for inspiring her. “I have vivid memories of her quilting frame in her living room,” she said.
Even though we are excited to welcome these new board members, sadly we have to say “goodbye” to outgoing board member Star Ann Kloberdanz. Star Ann has been a great help to the museum these past three years, especially during the Iowa Quilt Festival, and we also appreciate her willingness to be our “retreat mom”. We wish her and her husband Ed all the best. Her presence at the museum will be missed.
Exhibits for 2025
The best way to describe this upcoming may be—something old, something new, they are all borrowed and some of them are blue.
January 7th through April 20th – Iowa Quilts!
This exhibit is being curated by Tony Jacobson and Joyce Franklin from Piece Works Quilt Shop in Winterset, Iowa. Tony & Joyce contacted quilt shops from across the state asking them to send quilts that best represented their shops. Quilts are already coming in for this upcoming exhibit from the Quilted Windmill shop in Pella, Iowa, and Hen and Chicks Studio in Conrad. Local quilters will be included in this exhibit as well—Janet Pitman and Daniela Martisovits being two of the artists represented.

April 22 through August 3 – Tiny Pieces, Vast Visions
Quilts by Deb Cashatt, Irene Roderick, Niraja Lorenz, and Susan Lapham are currently on exhibit at the National Quilt Museum in Paducah until December 30th, and we are so thrilled that they decided that their next display location will be here in Iowa. The artists will also participate in the 2025 Iowa Quilt Festival!
August 5 through November 30 – Julie Silber’s Mother’s Blue & White Quilts
We’re honored to be working with Julie Silber, respected quilt collector, dealer, and appraisor, to showcase her mother’s antique blue and white quilts
December 2, 2025 – April 15,2026 – Rebound, Renew, Reimagine
The Manhatten Modern Quilters’ Guild’s post-COVID exhibit will make a stop here in Iowa at the end of 2025. We were fortunate enough to have 40×40@40 displayed in 2021 and so looking forward to displaying the guild’s amazing work again.

MONICA DONALDSON
I visited the Iowa Quilt Museum this fall and thoroughly enjoyed the display and your facility. The lady that was working at the museum that day was delightful and took time to visit with me. I look forward to visiting again and hope to take some friends along on my next visit to Winterset.
