Valerie Funk Trunk Show & Lecture
April 20th in Ames
On Friday, April 20th, from 6:00 – 8:00 pm, up and coming quilt artist from Terre Haute, Indiana, Valerie Funk, will be presenting a colorful trunk show featuring many of her most popular quilts including Ze Coat of Many Colors, The Lion and the Paintbrush, Sundari, We Were Soldiers, and many more. Valerie is photographer, graphic designer, artist, and quilter. After graduating from college with a degree in photography and graphic design Valerie began exploring other creative options which is how she discovered quilting in 2010. After completing a beginner quilting class, she began utilizing her photography and graphics background to design her own quilts and patterns. She specializes in photo-graphic style portraits, modern abstracts, animals, and landscapes.
Valerie, who is also a ten-year Army veteran received a special commission in 2014 to design a special quilt that now hangs in the welcome center of the Iowa Veteran’s Cemetery in Van Meter, Iowa. Valerie’s quilting style is as colorful as it is unique. Meet Valerie at the Quilting Connection, 238 Main Street in Ames, as she shares her personal story about what led her to Iowa and quilting as well as her journey to publishing patterns and her first book. She’ll detail the thoughts behind some of her very emotional quilts, their individual stories, and why she felt so driven to create them.
