Future Exhibits

As an exhibit-only quilt museum, we install new exhibits four times a year. Here are the upcoming exhibits we’ve planned at this time, and be sure to check back as we continue to plan for the future.

Sound and Light: Composing Quilts

January 19, 2027 through April 18, 2027

What do quilts and music have in common? Both can be created through rhythm, pattern, repetition, variation, and improvisation. Joe Cunningham is inspired by composer John Cage’s exploration of sound and chance. Sound & Light brings together historic and contemporary quilts that explore the abstract qualities shared by music and quiltmaking.

Bonnie Hunter: Quilts from the Mountains to the Plains

April 20, 2027 through August 1, 2027

From the mountains where she lives to the plains of Iowa, Bonnie K. Hunter brings her love of scrap quilting to the Iowa Quilt Museum. Bonnie transforms scraps and humble fabrics into quilts filled with color, pattern, and personality. This solo exhibition celebrates Bonnie’s distinctive approach to scrap quilting and the quilts that have carried her creative journey from the mountains to here in the plains.
