Piecing the Generations Together Quilt Show

March 23rd and 24th in Muscatine

The Muscatine Melon Patchers Quilt Guild will present a quilt show on March 23rd and 24th at the First Baptist Church in Muscatine (3003 Mulberry Ave.). Local quilters’ art and quilts will be on display, all focusing on the theme of multigenerational quilting. The show is titled Piecing the Generations TogetherVisitors will have the opportunity to view a garden of quilts & family heirlooms along with their stories. Food will also be available and vendors will be on hand if you’d like to do some shopping.

Julie Letvin (Me & My Stitches) Trunk Show & Demo

April 7th at the Iowa Quilt Museum

Julie Letvin (Me & My Stitches) specializes in hand made, miniature, paper pieced jewelry. Her jewelry designs range in size from 3/4 of an inch to 1 1/2 inches. These tiny quilt blocks are encased in glass and made into pins, pendants, scissor fobs, charms and earrings.

On Saturday, April 7th, visitors to the Iowa Quilt Museum can meet Julie, hear the story of how she got started quilting tiny jewelry, check out the variety of items Julie has to offer & see a demonstration of how she makes her tiny quilted jewelry! Julie will be at the IQM from 10:00 am  – 4:00pm on April 7th and will give her presentation at 11:00am and 2:00pm.

Julie’s Trunk Show and Demonstration is included with the price of admission to the Iowa Quilt Museum ($6) on Saturday, April 7th. Free for IQM Members.  Reserve a space at either the 11:00 or 2:00 trunk show/demo by clicking HERE. Reserving a space is not required but it is appreciated because it will help us with our planning.

Spring Quilt Show

April 7th-14th at the Henry A. Wallace Country Life Center in Orient

Not just a one-day show, the Spring Quilt Show at the Henry A. Wallace Country Life Center includes a whole week of beautiful quilts. Over 65 quilts will be on display on the handicap-accessible second floor of the Gathering Barn at the Henry A. Wallace Country Life Center located in Orient. Quilters and quilt collectors in Adel, Bridgewater, Casey, Creston, Mt. Ayr and Des Moines are loaning their treasures for this display that will feature antique quilts, artsy quilts, bed-sized quilts, wall hangings, and everything in between. Please note that the show is closed Sunday, April 8. $5/person admission at the door.

 

Upcoming Exhibit at the Iowa Quilt Museum

Exhibit opening April 17th | Opening Reception April 21st

In upcoming issues of Iowa QuiltScape, we’ll share more details about our next fantastic exhibit Playing With Purpose: A Victoria Findlay Wolfe Retrospective. For now though, make plans to get to Winterset between April 17th and July 29th to see the exhibit and save the date of April 21st, 5:00-8:00pm, for a chance to meet Victoria at the Exhibit Opening Reception. Tickets to the opening reception can be purchased at the door or in advance ($10).

 

Annual Quilt Show & Sale

April 26th-28th in Kalona

Over 200 new and antique hand quilted quilts will be on display and for sale in this annual show in the Kalona Historic Village. Many of the quilts are Amish or Mennonite made. For more information call 319-656-4489 or email katie@woodinwheel.com. Admission is $6.

 

Madison County Airing of the Quilts

Saturday, April 28th

Again, MANY more details to follow in subsequent posts but here’s a little teaser about the community-wide Airing of the Quilts event that will take place in Winterset and Madison County on Saturday, April 28th. In addition to the daytime quilt displays, two evening events will serve as fundraisers for the Iowa Quilt Museum.

10:00am-4:00pm (Purchase a $20 wristband for entry into all the displays marked with *)

  • Displays at four Covered Bridges featuring quilts by Iowans Marianne Fons, Liz Porter, Mary Fons & Sandy Gervais
  • Quilt displays inside & outside the Madison County Courthouse
  • A tour of five historic homes & quilts*
  • Quilts shows at five local churches* (many churches will also serve food and have quilt markets)
  • Historic quilts on display at the grounds of the Madison County Historical Museum*
  • Playing with Purpose: A Victoria Findlay Wolfe Retrospective at the Iowa Quilt Museum*

4:30 pm

  • Cocktail Reception at the Iowa Quilt Museum with a Wacky Trunk show by Barbara Brackman & Deb Rowden – $10

5:30 pm

  • Dinner & Auction benefitting the IQM at the Winterset Presbyterian Church – $35 ($40 for a ticket to the reception AND dinner)
We’re out to put Madison County on the map as a quilting mecca and hope you’ll join us!
