Celebrate National Quilting Day with the Iowa Quilt Museum on Saturday, March 16th from 10:00am to 4:00pm. Visit our fabulous exhibit, Portraits: The Many Faces of Iowa Art Quilters, PLUS a bonus pop-up exhibit of Irish Chain Quilts. You’re also invited to bring a quilt of your own to see what our experts can tell you about it. Textile experts Valorie Bonk and Elizabeth Andrews are waiting to tell you about your quilt—the pattern, when was it likely made, where might it have come from, and more. And if you’d like, our volunteers can help you document the information on a quilt label.
Sign up for one 15 minute slot for each quilt. If bringing two quilts, sign up for consecutive time slots. The cost of the consultation is included with admission to the IQM ($6 for adults). If you would like to document your quilt with a label, the suggested donation is $5. Sign up for consultations at THIS LINK.
At 1:00pm, join us for a presentation about the care and preservation of antique quilts led by Elizabeth Andrews.
Because we’re really excited about National Quilting Day – we’ve got a special prize to give away!
To be eligible, find us on Facebook at THIS LINK and in the comments post a picture of your favorite antique quilt. Then look through the comments to ‘like’ and comment on other photos. The owner of the photo with the most ‘likes’ and comments by Saturday will win a copy of Unconventional & Unexpected: American Quilts Below the Radar by Roderick Kiracofe.
We look forward to celebrating with you on
National Quilting Day!
