Iowa QuiltScape for June 21, 2020

Six days until the
2020 Madison County Airing of the Quilts!

And the forecast is looking GREAT!

We’re grateful for a favorable forecast because all of the displays in our community-wide colorfest of quilts will be OUTDOORS this year allowing for plenty of space to wander (or drive) around and still maintain the recommended six feet of distance between yourself and others.

Exhibits will be on display from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm so you can spend hours wandering leisurely through Winterset and Madison County viewing quilts, historical landmarks, and all that our lovely community has to offer.

Tickets are just $20* and include admission to the Iowa Quilt Museum where you can view our ‘Man Made‘ exhibit.

We’ll see you in Winterset on Saturday!

Once you purchase your ticket online, you’ll receive a confirmation email. Closer to June 27th, you’ll receive another email with a printable map showing the locations of all of the displays around the community. This map will also serve as your admission ticket to the Iowa Quilt Museum. We’ll also share suggestions for lunch and let you know where you can find public restroom facilities.

*Because all of this year’s exhibits are outdoors, we can’t restrict viewing to just those who have a ticket. However, we hope you’ll decide to purchase a ticket in order to support the Iowa Quilt Museum so that we can keep providing quality exhibits and programming that celebrates and honors the tradition of American quiltmaking.

Remember to visit our online auction, too!

This fundraiser serves as a main source of income for the Iowa Quilt Museum. Our annual budget is supported only in part by admissions and gift shop sales. The remainder comes from private donations and grants and this annual fundraising event.

The auction offers both antique and contemporary quilts in a variety of styles, as well as some other quilt-related items. Many of the quilts in this year’s auction were made or collected by former Winterset resident, Peggy Freligh [free-lee], and donated for the auction by her husband, Dave. Remember, in addition to making beautiful bed coverings, quilts can also serve as dramatic pieces of art in a home or business.

Kids visit FREE through July 5th

And we’ve got a fun scavenger hunt to do while you’re here!

We know this is going to be a unique, and somewhat tough, summer for families with kids at home. We hope that in a small way we can make things a little better by offering an inexpensive family outing!

So grab the kids, or grandkids, and come on over to see our Man Made exhibit between now and July 5th, and the kids will get in free with a paid adult. We’ve also created a fun “Search & Find” activity for kids to do while they’re looking at the quilts.

This is a preview of the Search & Find activity. When you come visit, we’ll have one printed up and ready for you!
