Iowa QuiltScape for February 12, 2021

Virtual Iowa Quiltscape Series

February 16th • Tara Faughnan, Fern Royce & Sarah Nishiura

Join us each Tuesday at Twelve for a live program from the Iowa Quilt Museum. Some weeks will focus on our current exhibit, String Theory, while other weeks will focus on various aspects of the quilting landscape (or Quiltscape) in Iowa.

Our February 16th session will focus again on our current exhibit “String Theory: String-pieced Quilts from Past to Present” and feature three of the exhibit contributors, Tara Faughnan, Fern Royce & Sarah Nishiura.

Quilt Exhibit at Cornell College

“totis viribus (with all my might)”
Erick Wolfmeyer
On display through February 19th

The Iowa Quiltscape exists to share events happen here at the IQM and across the state of Iowa although it’s been a while since we’ve had something to share that we weren’t hosting ourselves. We’re a little late in getting this out, but, for one more week, Cornell College in Mt. Vernon, Iowa, is hosting an exhibit of quilts by Eric Wolfmeyer titled “totis viribus”.

Eric Wolfmeyer is an Iowa quilter who has contributed to exhibits here at the IQM on multiple occasions, most recently in Man Made. In fact, I recognize some of the beauties in this exhibit on display in the Luce Gallery at Cornell College! As you can see from these photos (which were taken by Linzee McCray), many of Eric’s quilts are large-scale tapestries. If you can make it to Mt. Vernon next week (as the weather warms up just a bit!) you won’t regret it. Perhaps I’ll play hooky one day and go myself!

We have some other virtual programs available right now and since I’ve already posted about them several times, I’ve taken them out of today’s missive. However, if you need the details you can find them on the EVENTS page of our website.

Share the Iowa Quilt Museum with your friends!

If you’ve been enjoying some of our virtual program, consider scheduling the IQM as a program for your quilt guild, civic group, retirement community or any other interested group. We can share our pre-recorded presentation or even bring you a live program complete with Q&A if you so desire. If you know a program coordinator who is struggling to find material right now, encourage them to contact museum director Megan Barrett to inquire about dates and cost for a virtual program with the IQM!
