Log Cabin Sampler

Instructor and pattern designer Scott Flanagan will take you step-by-step through this pattern and teach you his tips and tricks to keeping log cabins spinning in the correct direction and correct size.

Log Cabin Sampler is a perennial favorite pattern. Combining the tried-and-true Log Cabin Block with sampler blocks out of Half Square Triangles. The project can be traditionally cut with a rotary cutter but also using the listed Accuquilt Dies (found in the pattern). The finished quilt measures 54″ x 62″.

This pattern is fat quarter based and you will learn multiple ways to do half-square triangles. The class will take place at More Pieces on the historical square of Winterset.

If Quilts Could Talk

If you’ve been wondering about a quilt you own and would like some answers about the pattern, age, condition and more, then this is the class for you. Unlike a quilt appraisal, you will not receive a value amount during a consultation.

Val Bonk is a certified AQS quilt appraiser. Each consultation is about 3o minutes. After registration, you will receive a link to sign-up for a time-slot.

Winter Winds

Brand new pattern by Scott Flanagan. He will teach you his tips and tricks to simplify the quilt-making process in this class.

This unique star creates lots of movement, bringing to mind the quilt’s title. Scott Flanagan’s one block design makes a 76″ x 97″ twin quilt, keeps the winter chill at bay, and adds cool, sleek style to any room’s décor.

Basic Beginning Needle Turn Appliqué

Learn the needle turn stitch, how to make a stem, leaves and a smooth circle. Plus, Nan will give you a list the tips, tricks and tools she loves to use.

Simple Flower Supply List – Hand Appliqué

  • 1 – 6”x9” background fabric (light in color)
  • 1 – 6” fabric for circle “flower”
  • 1 – 4” fabric for flower center
  • 1 – 2”x4” fabric for stem
  • 2 – 2”x3” leaf fabrics
  • 1 – 2”x3” top of flower
  • Needle – Prefer size 10 or 11 Straw
  • Thread – To match pieces, not background. Prefer 100# silk or 60 wt. cotton. Can use neutral color
  • Marker – Blue wash-out

Beginning Foundation Paper Piecing

Come away from this class with the knowledge to be confident with foundation paper piecing. We’ll make a bold 12” block that, combined with others, will make a striking quilt! You’ll want to make more of these! Plus, Nan will give you the tips, tricks and tools she loves to use.

Paper Piecing Supply List

  • 5 or 6 fat quarters
  • Sewing machine and basic sewing kit: Scissors, thread, seam ripper, etc.
  • Small dry iron (travel or Clover) and pad
  • 8”x8” or larger ruler, rotary cutter and mat
  • Pencil
  • Playing card, business card, credit card – some kind of thick paper or card 3”-4” in size

If you have these items, it is helpful:

  • Add-An-Eighth or Add-A-Quarter ruler
  • 90/14 sewing machine needles
  • Open toe foot

Color Crayon Embroidery

In this fun class, taught by Jackie Heckathorn, you’ll learn how to tint fabric using color crayons and basic embroidery stitches to finish your project. These adorable mason jars make a beautiful wall piece or use for a larger quilt, wall hanging, or a small project.

You will need to purchase and download the design from Etsy store VickiNStitches and the design is called Mason Jar Florals.

Supplies Needed:

  • 13” x 13” (or larger) piece of white cotton
  • Color Crayons – your choice on the box and brand. Read the pattern for colors needed.
  • Embroidery thread – the brand is your choice. Read the pattern for colors needed.
  • Hoop – Use a size that works for you
  • .01 Micron Pen (you want a small tip and your embroidery will cover the pen marks)
  • Embroidery needles
  • Lightbox if you have one (not mandatory)
